April 2019 - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Hello Preschool Families                                             April 2019

We are beginning a new month and learning about Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, with several fun things planned for this month.  The afternoon group will also have Recycle Rhonda come to visit on April 16 and she will leave materials for me to reteach the lesson to the morning class.
** I will also post photos of books and different areas on the blog**

The sensory area will have black beans and recycled items such as: small boxes, toilet paper tubes, baby food jars, water bottle, yogurt container, soda can, V-8 can, baby doll clothes, and plastic bags to sort in the correct bins - plastic, glass, paper, metal, compost and not recyclable.   A great way to practice sorting and helping the environment.

The math and literacy areas have spelling different pet cards to spell with letter tiles, recycle syllable clip it cards, ten frame recycle cards, sorting caps, and recycled caps to count on numbered bins.  The children will sort different items onto the reduce, reuse, and recycled cards as well as sorting items that are healthy and harmful to our earth.  Along with our normal math journals, writing work, and puzzles.

We will use recycled items in our water table and fun pet cookie cutters and basic tools with our playdough.

The block area has different size boxes to build with along with other items like animals, cars, and people.  In years past the children have loved building with these types of blocks so hopefully it is a hit again.  If you have any shoe boxes or tissue boxes, we would love to add them to our collection.

Our dramatic play area will become a Pet Store - the children will be encouraged to adopt a pet.  We have many different types of pets such as: dogs, cats, bunnies, fish, lizards, birds, hermit crabs, snakes, mice, and even a pet rock.  Also, for sale at the store will be food, treats, and products to care for your pet.  I think the children will have a BLAST exploring this area and using their imaginations.  The pet store will be open for the whole month of April.
DATES TO REMEMBER
Wednesday April 10 - NO preschool
April 22 - 26 NO SCHOOL Spring Break

Hopefully the weather continues to get warmer and the sun shines, so we can play outside.

WHATS NEXT??  The month of May we will be discussing Farm and Frogs.  I have applied to the UVM extension program to hatch eggs into chickens.  This is my first time with this activity, so I am hoping that it is a success.  Wish us Luck!

Thank you so much for all your help and support in the classroom.

March - Building theme

Hello Preschool Families:                                            March 2019

Welcoming March with open arms and hopefully warm weather.   This month our theme is building: building houses, construction, blocks, different structures around the world, and fun with boxes.

Our dramatic play area will turn into a work bench to use our imagination to build and use tools.

Our block area has a building challenge for the children to try using cardboard pieces, tubes, wooden pieces, and clothes pins.  There are also pictures of different buildings and structures from around the world for the children to try and build.   The children have construction men, trucks, wooden arches, and blocks as well to use in the block area.

Our classroom was taken over by magical fairies.  A wonderful addition for the children to use their imagination and make believe.  There are several fairies, gnomes, small house, and pieces for the children to set up a village and play.

Academics this week we started our new sign in where the children are practicing writing their name or part of their name (age and ability depending) They are working very hard.  Last week we started our math journals.  We will continue our Handwriting Without Tears writing letters or making letters with wooden pieces (age depending).  Practicing counting, letter sounds, rhyming, and more.
