Hello
Preschool Families May
2019
Our theme
for May is Farm and possibly Frogs. I am
going to be flexible – If the children are loving the farm theme then we will
stay with farm theme but if I feel like they need a change then we will change
to a frog theme in a few weeks.
This week
our dramatic play area is a house area.
Next week it will turn into a chicken coop. There will be stuffed chickens and plastic
eggs to find, and best of all no chicken mess to clean up.
Our block
area is a farm yard with farm animals, farm rug, fencing blocks, barn, silo,
and tractors. Also, in that area are
farm animal block mates. What are block
mates? Great question they are plastic
pieces that look like animals that you put on the blocks. It turns the block into that animal. Today
that area was a huge hit in both morning and afternoon sessions.
Our sensory
tables: one has different farm animals,
small barn and tractors along with popcorn seeds. Ms Tammy made silos from juice cartons on
Monday so the children can drop the corn at the top of the carton and it comes
out the bottom. The children were
catching the seeds with the tractors. The
other sensory table has wool to wash.
Last summer I came across wool that had been sheared from a sheep. Of course it is “dirty” with grass, dirt, and
feed, so we put it in soapy water to clean it.
Academic
items: Survey of favorite milk
(chocolate, regular or strawberry), patterning with farm animals, different
farm puzzles, feed the pig game, lucky duck game, duck dice game, counting clip
its, farm vocab syllable cards, count farm animals and write the number, put
the mud on the pig game, and many other items.
Movement
activity: Farm animal movement dice –
roll the dice and move like the animal.
Free play
toys: trains set, K’ nex, farm felt set, magnetic horses, and magnet
tiles. Along with the doll house and
other classroom items.
Our music
basket has a turned into the Old MacDonald music basket. There are instruments to play and farm
animals to hold while singing the song.
There is also a farm see and saw to play with in the basket.
