Hello Preschool Families
We wrapped up our recycling theme before break. The children loved having Recycle Rhonda come to visit through zoom. Many of them loved being a Planet Protector!! They gave great ways to help the Earth and the environment.
This week we are celebrating letters to end our Letter City fun and also learning about shadows. On Monday I introduced a game called “Trashy Letters'' to the children. They will pick up “trash” using tweezers, but the trash is a crumpled piece of paper with a letter on it. Next they will find the letter on their ABC chart, and mark it off that they found it. On the magnet wall we also had magnet letters and objects to match initials sounds to the letters. We will also practice writing words/pictures in our journal from our word wall. The children will get a chance to paint with black paint and create a shadow picture. The children will get a chance to go outside and find their shadow.
Next week we start our farm/chicken theme for the month of May.
Our block area has a variety of farm animals, tractors, farmers, hay, barn, and farm rug. The children have loved playing in this area. They have the opportunity to build with blocks, use the farm items, get creative with our cardboard building materials or use their imagination and use all the materials.
The dress up area has become a chicken coop (pictures to follow). The children will pick a number card and find the correct nest with the correct number of eggs in it. There will also be egg shape matching and chicken counting egg toys. I think the children will really enjoy collecting the eggs from the chickens. If you have a chicken coop at your house please send in a photo to share with the class ( this can be done though email as well).
This month we will have three different science areas. One will have the incubator, and I pick up the eggs on Monday. We have created a 21 day paper chain and will remove a chain each day to count down when the eggs will hatch and the chicks will come. I am hoping for a good hatching this time. The next area will be the life cycle of a chicken puzzle and plastic figures. The third area will have a different farm animal footprints and matching cards to go along with them.
The dollhouse has turned into a barn with fencing blocks, farm animals, and tractors. The children have enjoyed playing there and creating different homes and places for the animals to go.
The sensory table will have corn, homemade silos, farm animals and tractors to move the corn with. I know this will be a big hit.
Of course there will be several fun art projects and table work.
I think the children will really enjoy this month’s theme.
