Nov news blast

NOVEMBER NEWS BLAST

We have wrapped up our pumpkin learning with life cycles, parts of a pumpkin, pumpkin investigation, weighing pumpkins and gourds, science experiment trying to grow a pumpkin inside a pumpkin (which did not work), creating pumpkin patches in the block area, a farmer’s market in the dramatic play area, many fun art projects, and of course reading lots of wonderful pumpkin books.  We will continue to talk about feelings by reading a variety of books and talking about different strategies we can use in the classroom or at home to help us manage our feelings appropriately.

November is our Artist Study month and we will be learning about Henri Matisse.  First we will talk about what is an artist?  The children will be able to explore different art mediums and our free art area will be open to explore as well.  Then we will read different children’s books about Henri Matisse, and the children will get a chance to create some of their own Matisse artwork throughout the month of November.  We will also use YouTube to watch and listen to different songs and videos on artist and feelings.

Our dress up area will turn back in to a house area and later in the month we will also take out the babies to pretend to wash in the dress up area.

The block area will have animals, tubes and popsicle sticks, people, multicultural houses and people along with the children’s pictures on toilet paper tubes.  One of the challenges in this area will be to build an art museum.

The science area will have colored goggles, colored paddles, and kaleidoscopes to explore.

Our sensory bins will have different colored rice and black beans to explore along with a variety of tools.  We are hoping to open water tables this month as well.  We also will have playdough and playdoughs available.

We have a matching color bean bag throw as well as on our magnetic board.

A few of the art projects this month will be mixing primary colors to get a new color, painting with water color paints, still life painting of flowers or fruit, creating “stain glass” window art, cutting different shapes to glue, paint on small canvases, and our free art area.

Our table work will include our writing and math journals, drawing a self-portrait, creating All About Me books, creating classroom books, and more.

November in VT brings cooler weather and outside gear.  I will send home a dressing strip to help your child independently get dressed at home.  Please make sure your child’s extra clothes are also weather appropriate.

Thanks so much

Ms. Darcie
