Dec - Favorite Author - Jan Brett and Feelings

Hello Preschool Families

I hope everyone had a lovely break and spent lots of time with friends and family, so much to be thankful for.

We have 3 short weeks in December to cover a lot of fun material on our favorite author and illustrator Jan Brett.  We will talk about authors = write the words to stories and illustrators = draw the pictures.  We will talk about the secret that Jan Brett draws in some of her stories.

Here are a few other things that we will be doing this month

*Starting Work Jobs - independent work at the table for 3 minutes things like lacing, puzzles, counting, sorting, alphabet work, but we use a timer so the work only takes 3 minutes and the children take their name off the folder to say they are All Done the work.

*Classroom Jobs will start soon - Greeting friends is one of the jobs to say hello to all the friends.

ART AREA:
* Creating hedge hogs
* Fun paper plate twisting
* Decorating gingerbread people

New this month we will open our free art area for children to create their own art to take home.

SENSORY AREA:
* White rice (snow) and animals that go along with Jan Brett books
* Salt and corn starch with colorful small letters and scoops
* Playdough to create hedge hogs - using googly eyes, tooth picks, small Popsicle sticks, and pom poms.
* Insta snow (or real snow if we have any) with animals or scoops

LITERACY AREA:
* Syllable clip it cards
* Mitten matching letters
* Dry erase boards
* Dry erase pre-writing lines
* Journal writing
* Retell The Mitten using props (mittens and plastic animals) at the small table

MATH AREA:
* Gingerbread baby game
* Counting clip it cards - gingerbread and woodland animals
* Mitten - identify number and count small buttons on them
* Sorting small colored pieces
* Gingerbread counters
* Chicken count and feed grain (small pom poms) to match number on chicken

SCIENCE AREA: things to look at
* Different rocks
* Prisms
* Kaleidoscopes
* Geodes - fun rocks with crystals inside
* Color paddles
* Binoculars & Magnifying glasses

PUZZLE & FINE MOTOR AREA:
* New puzzles
* Pegs
* Lacing'
* Magnet tanagrams

MANIPULATIVE TOYS:
* K'nex
* Magnet Tiles
* Peg towers
* Felt boards

TABLE WORK with Ms. Darcie
* Creating our own books to share with you at the book celebration
* Journal writing
* Hand writing work

COZY AREA:
* Mitten masks to retell the story
