Farm Update

The children are loving the farm theme so for now we will continue along with the farm theme.

Last week the children worked hard creating their name nests - pictures posted.  As well as their chicken life cycles that they will finish tomorrow.

I will also post a picture of the books we will read this week.

Questions to ask this week

What is in the water table?
What was our special snack to eat?
What did we make for a project with Tammy?
What table work did we do with Darcie?
What is happening with our eggs or caterpillars?
Who did I eat breakfast or lunch with?  What did we talk about?
What was my favorite thing to do today?
Who was the greeter and how did I greet them?

Farm first week

Hello Preschool Families

The children had a blast with the farm last week.  We talked about things we would see on a farm, what might grow on a farm, and farm animals.

This week we are focusing on chickens.  We will feather paint, create a chicken life cycle, and spell and write our name on paper eggs to put in a nest.

Our dramatic play is now a chicken coop - pictures soon to follow.  The children will pick a number card and find the correct nest to find the correct number of eggs.  Also in the dramatic play area will be a egg shape matching and don't drop the egg game.

We will also make pickles this week - hopefully they will be ready by Friday to taste!!

The children enjoyed washing the wool in soapy water last week.  This week we will dry it and let them see what it looks like now - how is it different.  What animal does wool come from?  What do we do with wool?

Pam from Burnham Library will be visiting both classes this week.

What can I ask my child this week?
How did you make pickles?
Did you like the taste of pickles?
What is going on with our butterflies?
Did you play in the chicken coop?  How may eggs did you find?
What books did Ms. Pam ready to your group - what songs did you move to?
What was your favorite part of the day?

May 2019

Hello Preschool Families                                     May 2019

Our theme for May is Farm and possibly Frogs.  I am going to be flexible – If the children are loving the farm theme then we will stay with farm theme but if I feel like they need a change then we will change to a frog theme in a few weeks.

This week our dramatic play area is a house area.  Next week it will turn into a chicken coop.  There will be stuffed chickens and plastic eggs to find, and best of all no chicken mess to clean up.

Our block area is a farm yard with farm animals, farm rug, fencing blocks, barn, silo, and tractors.  Also, in that area are farm animal block mates.  What are block mates?  Great question they are plastic pieces that look like animals that you put on the blocks.  It turns the block into that animal. Today that area was a huge hit in both morning and afternoon sessions.

Our sensory tables:  one has different farm animals, small barn and tractors along with popcorn seeds.  Ms Tammy made silos from juice cartons on Monday so the children can drop the corn at the top of the carton and it comes out the bottom.  The children were catching the seeds with the tractors.  The other sensory table has wool to wash.  Last summer I came across wool that had been sheared from a sheep.  Of course it is “dirty” with grass, dirt, and feed, so we put it in soapy water to clean it.

Academic items:  Survey of favorite milk (chocolate, regular or strawberry), patterning with farm animals, different farm puzzles, feed the pig game, lucky duck game, duck dice game, counting clip its, farm vocab syllable cards, count farm animals and write the number, put the mud on the pig game, and many other items.

Movement activity:  Farm animal movement dice – roll the dice and move like the animal.

Free play toys: trains set, K’ nex, farm felt set, magnetic horses, and magnet tiles.  Along with the doll house and other classroom items.

Our music basket has a turned into the Old MacDonald music basket.  There are instruments to play and farm animals to hold while singing the song.  There is also a farm see and saw to play with in the basket.

Food activities:
·       *  4/30 the children made butter by shaking heavy whipping cream and it       turns into butter and Wednesday they will eat bread and butter
·       *  Next week we will make homemade pickles – using salt water
·       *  Have an easy recipe that you would like to share or come in to help make with the children let me know.

Other items:
·        Our eggs came this week – they will hatch May 21
·        We also have caterpillars that will turn into butterflies

Dates to remember:
Monday May 27 – no school Memorial Day

If you have any question please let me know.

Thanks so much
