Jan 2018

Jan 2018

Welcome back!!!  I hope everyone had a lovely break, and are staying warm on these cold days.  I know that I am so excited to be back and see all my preschool friends.  I have missed them all, but have also enjoyed spending time with my family as well.

The next two weeks we will be talking about Hibernation and winter animals.  We will discuss what hibernation is, and what other animals do if they do not hibernate – like migrate or active animals in winter.  Then we will talk about penguins – where they live, what they eat, how they walk, and other interesting facts.  The last week in January we will talk about snowflakes.  How each snowflake is different, who was Snow Flake Bentley, and interesting facts about snowflakes.  February we will have fun with snow people and things we can do in the snow.  (as the new themes come along I will update you with new things going on in the classroom.)

A few things that will be happening in our classroom – our dramatic play area has changed into a bear cave – IF your child would like to bring in 1 teddy bear (JUST ONE) to play with in this area that would be ok.  Please make sure your bear is LABELED, and that it is not a favorite bear in case it gets left at school.  I will let children decide if they would like to let the bears sleep at school in their cubbies or go home.

We will have cheerios in our sensory area to string on pipe cleaners to hang outside to feed the animals.  Our water table will hold snow so we can make Mr. Snow heads – using our potato head pieces.

We also have the listening center out for two friends to use.  The book they will read this week is Sleep Big Bear Sleep by Maureen Wright to go along with our theme.  The children will use this center independently with lots of modeling and reminders in the beginning.  I think the children will really enjoy this area.

We will also start an added “have to” called work jobs.  The children will come to the table for 3 minutes to work on a task (this may not be every day) the tasks could be puzzles, counting, lacing, number recognition, letter recognition and so much more.

We have also created our own blocks using different boxes and tubes.  The children have loved using the new area last week – I am sure they will come back ready to build a new structure.

** If you have any boxes that you feel would be a great addition to our new homemade blocks feel free to bring them in.

It will be a fun month with all the new things additions.
