Oct 8-11

Hello preschool families

Last week the children seemed to enjoy our new topic of trees.  Some of their favorite areas were creating a seasonal tree in the art area with Tammy, the sensory table with bird seed and birds/trees, building trees in the block area, and feeding the squirrel game.

HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR WEEK:

This week we will continue learning about trees and start to talk about leaves.

Art with Tammy -
Our art projects will be creating a tree first by painting the tree trunk then by using a cork to dip in paint and stamp to decorate the top as leaves.  Also 3D trees using toilet paper tube for the trunk and water color paints to decorate the colorful tops.  At the easel we will paint trees.  Free art painting with water color paints.  Tammy will also play a game of memory with the children.

Work with Darcie -
One of the books we will read this week will be Chicka Chicka Boom Boom  by Bill Martin Jr.  The children will create a Chicka Chicka boom boom tree, the letters going up the tree will be letters in their name, and then count how many letters in their name.  We will also classify objects into groups - find all the tools, all the things that fly, all the fruit etc...We will write in our journals, practice writing our names, and much more.  On Wednesday I will take the children for a leaf walk looking for leaves - let me know if you would like to join us.

Oct 1 - 4 2019

What are we doing this week??

* We have a new greeting song - a picture with the words will be posted on the blog soon

* New sign in - names on wooden tree "chips" for them to find and place in basket.  Working very hard on name identification.

* This week we are talking about what we already know about trees, tree vocab, and who may live in trees.

* We will watch 2 short You Tube videos one on trees - parts of trees and tree vocab and one is a cute song that has the tree parts in it.  If you would like to watch it with your child at home the title is Head Shoulder Knees and Toes for Trees!  By Mr. R's Songs for Teaching.

* Work with me - the children will go outside (hopefully) to do bark rubbing to start the community tree that both classes will contribute to.  We may be able to use pieces of tree bark that Ms. Sue has brought in - if its raining outside.  We will write/draw in our journals.  We will try to create some patterns and look for different patterns in the classroom.  We will practice our spatial words such as behind, in front of, under, on top, etc with a toy set we have in class.

* Art with Ms. Tammy the morning class will create colorful hand print leaves, the afternoon class will cut out green leaves both sets of leaves will go on out community tree.  They will also work creating a life cycle of an apple tree that we will use later.

*  We will read several books - picture to be posted soon

*  We will look at all the fun nature items and tree items that have been brought in to class and are on our science/nature table.

*  We will also have our first day of the Farmers Market in the dramatic play area.  They children can buy different fruits and veggies and when its time to clean up sort them back in to the correct baskets by color.

*  Plus many other fun toys and areas will be available to play in this week.

Overview of October

This month we will be talking and learning about trees.  We will discuss what trees look like in different season, vocabulary around trees (roots, branches, bark, leaves etc...), who might live in trees, what we get from trees, and more.  We will touch upon leaves for a few days  and go into discussing apples.  We will talk about different apples, life cycle of an apple tree, and parts of an apple.

We will create a community tree in our classroom that BOTH classes will add too.  This will include bark rubbing from trees outside, cutting leaves, hand print leaves, and eventually apples.

I have many fun art projects planned for the month and table work for the children to complete.

I have also turned the kitchen area into a farmers market for a couple of weeks and then it will turn into an apple bakery to bake pies and apple desserts.

Our sensory table has birdseed - with plastic trees and birds in it - when we are finished we will feed the real birds outside.

And of course many other fun areas and toys are available throughout the day.
